Year 5 Typography

Year 5 have been exploring typography. Today, they used outdoor materials to inspire their own font. Have a look at their fantastic work!

Two-week art project: self-portrait

Year 6 have used the work of Mike Barrett to inspire their own pieces of artwork. The children created a self portrait which incorporates colours they feel reflect their personality and character. Everyone has shown brilliant grit and determination and creativity during this project!

A fantastic start for Y6!

A warm welcome to all- children and parents 😊 We have had an excellent start to the year, starting with nominating and democratically voting for our class representatives for School Council. The children were creative when writing their speeches and showed excellent teamwork when preparing.

It has been great to see everyone engaging in the process!

Exploring watercolours

Year 1 have enjoyed exploring watercolours. Artist Emma Burleigh explained how she uses watercolours in her art work. She lets a picture emerge from marks on the page, allowing the paint to ‘do its own thing’. She also explained different paint techniques including using only two or three colours, colour washing and ‘wet in wet’. Children enoyed exploring the way the paint flows on the page.

Historical Enquiry

Year 6 went on a hunt around the classroom for information about the Norwich Strangers! Life changed a lot for the Strangers after they arrived in Norwich. They were allowed to worship in their own language and follow their religious traditions, but some local people did not welcome them at first. Over time, many Stranger families began to settle in, with children attending local schools and learning English. Although there were tensions over work and trade, the two communities gradually began to mix, with some Strangers marrying locals and joining in city life.

We looked at secondary sources and considered whether it showed the Strangers were integrating into Norwich society or maintaining their own identity.

Year 4 Art Modroc

Year 4 really enjoyed exploring Modroc this afternoon as an art media to create a sphere. We used scrunched newspaper as a base, and water to activate the plaster before spending time shaping the surface. Next week we are hoping to create some food and fruit sculptures.

Year 3 sculpture

Year 3 enjoyed using clay to complete their 3D tiger sculptures, inspired by Quentin Blake, this afternoon. They had to think about shape and line. They are excited to paint them later this week!

Year 2 Smoothie Making

This half term in DT Year 2 have been taste testing and designing smoothies. This week they made their recipes and all enjoyed a delicious smoothie featuring a whole range of exciting ingredients.
