Year 3 Science

Year 3 completed a water transportation investigation today.

They enjoyed making predictions, conclusions and setting up fair experiments.

Year 3 Geography Visitor

Year 3 had a visitor to launch their sustainability unit this afternoon.

They enjoyed finding out what sustainability was, looking at different examples of how we can be more sustainable and they even thought about changes they can make in their own life!

Art in Year 6

Year 6 have been looking at the work of Patrick Caulfield this week, who was part of the ‘Pop Art’ movement with Peter Blake and David Hockney. They began by choosing and drawing an everyday object from different viewpoints and creating a linear aspect by adding black pen to their sketch. They then enlarged their linear drawing and used paint to provide flat areas of cover. Once their paintings were dry, children made their objects ‘pop’ in Caulfield’s style by outlining them in thick black pen. We think their finished outcomes look amazing!

Y1 – Jack and the Bean’s Talk

Year 1 had a visit from the Garlic Theatre Company for a production of Jack and the Bean’s Talk. The children also got the opportunity to see the puppets and find out how it all works. They were incredibly inspired and we can’t wait to see how amazing their own stories are when they write them in a few weeks.

Y1 – Day of Welcome

As part of our curriculum day Year 1 have talked about what it would be like to have to move to a new school or a new place. We read the story ‘Bobble’ and discussed how Bobble felt landing in a new place . The children were incredibly empathetic and we were really impressed by all their ideas about how to make someone feel welcome when they come to our school for the first time.

Y4 String Telephones

Year 4 explored how to make the best string telephone by testing different sizes of cups to see which gave the clearest sound. We also investigated the possibility of ‘eavesdropping’ into others’ conversations.

The mystery in year 1

Last week the children came into school and a beanstalk had grown in each of the classrooms! The children think that the beanstalk grew from some magic beans that Mr Cross gave us. The children have worked hard to describe the beanstalk and produced some wonderful descriptive writing!

Year 4 Litter Pick

Year 4 considered both the positive and the negative impact that humans can have on the environment. We discussed the different types of litter and how some litter will decompose compared to other litter which will not. We then conducted a litter pick in our local area to see what type of litter was most commonly dropped.

We found that cigarettes were the most common type of litter however there were lots of plastic packets and plastic pieces also found. The least common was organic, compostable litter. We have set up an experiment, using the litter we found, to see how the three types of litter will break down (decompose) over time.

Y1 – Typing on a Keyboard

Year 1 were lucky to have some Y6 ambassadors join us for our computing lesson. They showed us how to use a keyboard to type. The children then had a go at writing some sentences.
