Year 4 watercolour art

This week, year four have been learning new watercolour techniques which they will use when creating pieces related to the Iron Man. They worked on their brush control and saw the effects that salt and clingfilm could have on their paint.

Time and Tide Museum Trip

Year 6 had a fantastic trip out to Great Yarmouth to visit the Time and Tide Museum. We travelled back to 1941 when Great Yarmouth was in the thick of the action as a ‘front line town’. Year 6 discovered how the war affected people on the home front and met an ARP warden, housewife, shopkeeper and Home Guard soldier. We explored how to stay safe in an air raid and took cover in a Morrison shelter. Children in the year group tried on gas masks, counted rations in the wartime shop and learned how to ‘make-do and mend’.

At school, the children finished off their Second World War unit by creating a double page spread on all of the information that they have learnt. A brilliant term of learning, completed with some excellent presentation!

Y4 Boom Whacker Fun

This week, Year 4 practised playing along to a hoedown piece using boomwhackers. They worked hard on keeping in time as a group and reading the musical notation. Next week, the class is looking forward to starting a some Christmas carols.

Science: Shadows Investigation

Year 6 have continued their Light unit in science, learning about how shadows can change in size through changing the distance between the object ad light source. The children were independent in setting up their investigations and showed great teamwork.

Year 4 Catapults

In year four this week we have enjoyed making working Roman catapult models. The pupils had to measure, saw and glue the parts together. We used elastic bands for the mechanism and then tested them outside with erasers and plastic soldiers.

Anti-Bullying Curriculum Day

Year 6 came together as a year group to learn about diversity, individuality and the impact racism can have. We discussed a range of scenarios and reflected on how this might affect how someone feels- learning how the way we communicate with each other matters. In groups, we worked to create poems on this topic using creativity and teamwork.

Year 4 Friendship Workshop

Year 4 were fortunate to take part in a friendship workshop today presented by staff from the NHS. We learned how to resolve conflicts, how to recognise the positive qualities in ourselves and finally some relaxation and breathing techniques.

Year 4 teeth experiment

Year 4 pupils explored how everyday drinks can affect our teeth by using eggshells as a model for tooth enamel. They placed eggs in water, orange juice, blackcurrant and Coca-Cola, then observed how each drink stained or damaged the shells. The activity helped them understand how sugary and acidic drinks can impact dental health.

Year 4 Roman Town Design

This week in history, our year 4s learnt about how the Romans designed their towns and cities. With a forum at the centre, city walls with gate houses, amphitheatres, bath houses, a basilica and temples, we were amazed at how many different buildings featured. After finding out how we know so much about these towns today, we spent the afternoon designing our own as you can see below.
