This week, Year 4 practised playing along to a hoedown piece using boomwhackers. They worked hard on keeping in time as a group and reading the musical notation. Next week, the class is looking forward to starting a some Christmas carols.

This week Reception did an amazing job for their performance of ‘Twinkly Nativity’. We have also been getting in the festive mood with lots of Christmas themed crafts and activities.

Year 5 investigated the effects of water resistance today.
They created different plasticine shapes and timed how long they took to reach the bottom of the beaker.
They thought about what made a fair test and ensured only one variable changed.

We are so proud of the year 1 children this week. Not only have they shown great confidence with their wonderful Christmas performance, but they have also been working hard on their writing. They have been writing the story of ‘Lost and Found’. This is the longest piece of writing they have done so far and they have amazed us with their independence and creativity. Well done!

Year 5 have enjoyed learning guitar this term. They were able to build on their learning from last year and learn new chords and perform different songs.

In year 1, children have been learning about cold climates. They have learned about Antarctica in the South Pole and how penguins have adapted to live in the Antarctic conditions. They then compared this to the Sahara desert and looked at how camels have adapted to live in the hot desert. By using venn diagrams, they were able to think about what was the same, and what was different between these cold and hot climates. Finally, they learned about how the Arctic is an ocean at the North Pole which freezes over. Alongside their learning of cold climates, they made moveable penguins in DT and painted digital penguins in IT.

Writing club have started writing their stories. Over the past few weeks they have created characters, developed settings, planned out their story and now it’s time to write. It’s been wonderful to see their creative ideas. We can’t wait to read them!
Year 5 explored air resistance today and investigated which paper spinner fell the slowest.
They had to think about what a fair test was and record their results accurately.
Everyone had lots of fun!

Year 6 have continued their Light unit in science, learning about how shadows can change in size through changing the distance between the object ad light source. The children were independent in setting up their investigations and showed great teamwork.

Today, children in Year 3 visited Norwich Cathedral to learn about Advent and the Christmas Story.

They talked about Advent meaning ‘getting ready’ and all the things we do to get ready for Christmas.
Children also heard about the prophet, Isaiah, foretelling the birth of Jesus before decorating their own matchbox manger and ‘Bethlehem’ sign.

They heard different parts of the Christmas story from some of the characters and had the opportunity to dress up and get involved – from finding lost sheep to following the star and taking gifts to the manger.
A great time was had by all. Thank you to the Cathedral team for a fantastic day!
