Historical Enquiry

Year 6 went on a hunt around the classroom for information about the Norwich Strangers! Life changed a lot for the Strangers after they arrived in Norwich. They were allowed to worship in their own language and follow their religious traditions, but some local people did not welcome them at first. Over time, many Stranger families began to settle in, with children attending local schools and learning English. Although there were tensions over work and trade, the two communities gradually began to mix, with some Strangers marrying locals and joining in city life.

We looked at secondary sources and considered whether it showed the Strangers were integrating into Norwich society or maintaining their own identity.

The Norwich Strangers

Year 6 were very lucky to have a visit from Karen and Clair who work at the Norfolk Record Office to deliver activities on our history unit: The Norwich Strangers. They helped Y6 to recap their understanding of who the Norwich Strangers were, where they came from and why they came to Norwich. Everyone showed curiosity, teamwork, and concentration to have a fantastic workshop; there was even period dress-up involved!

Year 6 Go Ape!

Year 6 had a great time at Go Ape for their very well-deserved end of SATs treat! The children were so excited and were fearless going up on the high ropes course and zip wires! We were so proud of how they represented the school too.

Well done Year 6!

Wow, what a week! Our Year 6’s have been absolutely amazing when completing their SATs this week – they have shown tremendous amounts of grit and determination and resilience.

Each day has started with a SATs breakfast, children have enjoyed lots of delicious options – topped off by today’s mouth-watering pancakes! A HUGE thank you to Nicki and the kitchen team for making sure our children had a nutritious breakfast before each of their assessments.

Thank you also to all the adults who gave up their time to support in Year 6 this week and to all parents and carers for their continued support. We wish everyone – adults and children – a well-deserved and restful weekend, when it comes.

Good Luck Year 6!

Next week our wonderful Year 6 pupils take part in their end of Key Stage 2 SATs. We couldn’t be more proud of how hard they have worked in preparation. Each and every one of them has shown so much challenge, grit and determination and concentration. We have been so impressed with their amazingly positive attitudes! The progress they have made, regardless of what happens next week, has been exceptional.

A huge good luck to everyone, however, remember this is just one week in the learning journey so far and all we can ask is that they try their best. Have a lovely, restful weekend, enjoy the sunshine and we look forward to welcoming our Year 6’s to SATs Breakfast on Monday morning.

We think this poem sums it up perfectly!

SATs don’t measure sports,
SATs don’t measure art,
SATs don’t measure music,
Or the kindness of your heart.

SATs don’t see your beauty,
SATs don’t know your worth,
SATs don’t see the reasons,
You were put upon this Earth.

SATs don’t see your magic,
How you make others smile,
SATs don’t time how quickly,
You can run a mile.

SATs don’t hear your laughter,
Or see you’ve come this far,
SATs are just a tiny glimpse,
Of who you really are.

So sitting at your table,
With a pencil and your test,
Remember SATs aren’t who you are,
Remember YOU’RE THE BEST!

Informal letter writing in Year 6

Year 6 have been working hard in their writing lessons to produce informal letters based on Shaun Tan’s ‘The Arrival’. The main character has moved to a new land to pursue a better life and writes to his family to persuade them to come and join him. To get into role and consider what the main character would say to his wife and daughter, children did some hot-seating! We were impressed by how they took to the challenge, considering mature and reflective questions to ask the person in role. We’re looking forward to reading the final letters and seeing them up on the writing wall displays too.
