Y5 – Anti Bullying Curriculum Day

We had a wonderful day working together in our year group and also meeting up with our Y2 ‘Buddy Classes’. As a year group we looked at what the word ‘bullying’ means and acted through scenarios so that we could better understand how bullying can effect our mental-wellbeing.

We read the story ‘Emmanuel’s Dream,’ which is a true story about the boy Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah. The children wrote a letter to Emmanuel explaining how he has inspired them and what they will do to make others with physical disabilities feel accepted.

In the afternoon, we met up with our buddy classes and made our very own sock puppets. The children were incredibly creative and loved adding on the sequin and glitter details.

Year 2 – Chinese Dragon Vehicles

In Design and Technology this half term Year 2 have been learning about mechanisms and wheeled vehicles, they have learnt the key vocabulary axel, wheel and chassis. During this unit the children have designed, built and decorated their own moving Chinese Dragons ready for our Dragon Parade later in the term.

Our First Workshare!

Today we hosted our very first whole-school workshare. Thank you to parents and carers for coming along and helping to celebrate all of our pupils’ amazing learning so far! We will be hosting a work-share towards the end of each half-term. We will keep everyone updated with future dates in our monthly school newsletter.

Year 2 – RE

Year 2 have been learning about why light is an important symbol in Judaism. We have learnt about the Maccabees, the festival of Hanukkah and about the importance of the candles on a menorah.

Year 2 – Curriculum Day

Year 2 had a fantastic Curriculum Day celebrating Black History Month. We learnt all about local hero Pablo Fanque. Feeling inspired by Pablo Fanque, we learnt how to perform some of the different acts that he had in his own circus. In the afternoon, we performed our circus for our Year 5 buddies.

Black History Month Curriculum Day

Today in school we have had a curriculum day in honour of Norfolk Black History Month. Across the school, children have been learning about influential Black people; Chadwick Boseman, Kadeena Cox, Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Mo Farah and John Boyega. They have looked into their achievements and contributions and why they have inspired people across the world with their work and their amazing approaches to life.

We were also treated to sessions of African dancing and drumming with the PanAfro Band. It was a joy to see everyone moving and enjoying themselves and experiencing this wonderful style of music and dance.

Throughout our school year, we are committed to celebrating diversity across our curriculum and in all of our learning and so this is just an opportunity to extend the already wonderfully diverse curriculum we have here at Queens Hill.

Year 2 Geography – Weather Reports

In Year Two this half term we have been learning about China in geography. The children compared the weather in Beijing to the weather in Norwich and worked together in groups to create weather reports. They made sure their weather reports included information about temperature and items of clothing that people might need.

Year 2 Collaborative Art display

This week year 2 have worked together to create a display inspired by the artist Anthony Frost who works in textiles with bold painted colours. We created words from the letters associated with our year group crown which was challenge.

Can you see your letter anywhere?
