Read Aloud Day

Today we shared books with our class buddies. It was lovely to hear the children reading aloud and discussing books. The Y5 children took their mentoring roles seriously and were questioning their buddies to ensure understanding. We even had some acting as a Y5 student demonstrated what it meant to stroll through the rainforest as an elephant.

Y6 Maths Competition

Children from Year 6 bravely represented Queen’s Hill Primary School at a recent mathematics competition. They worked in pairs, completing 3 different activities in 15 minute blocks, which also included the added twist of running between questions. They didn’t crumble under the pressure, they stood tall and made Queen’s Hill proud.

In fact we were so proud of them that we stopped off for ice cream to celebrate.

YR Outdoor Classroom

Last term Reception were excited to be able to visit the Outdoor Classroom for the first time. We walked carefully with our partner, listened to a story and then made a bird feeder. The children all behaved brilliantly and thank you so much to all the parent volunteers who made it happen.

States of Matter in Year 4

This week in Year 4, we have been learning about states of matter in Science. We learned about solids, liquids and gases and undertook an experiment to learn more. We put raisins into a cup of lemonade and found that the raisins floated to the top. We discovered that the gas particles in the lemonade allowed them to do this.

We have also been learning about Aztecs and we started the week with an Aztec day. We even had a visitor (Ms Taylor) who told us about an Aztec prophecy.

Finally, we celebrated 22.02.22 on Tuesday with Times Table Twosday! We all dressed as rockstars and joined a competition on Times Table Rockstars!

Y5 Math Competition

Boys from Year 5 bravely represented Queen’s Hill Primary School at a recent mathematics competition. They worked in pairs, completing 6 different activities in 8 minute blocks. They didn’t crumble under the pressure, they stood tall and managed to get a top ten place, which out of 34 was a significant achievement.

We were so proud of the boys we stopped off for ice cream to celebrate.

Curriculum Day in Year 3

For our ‘British Values’ curriculum day last Friday, Year 3 were learning about representing others, the importance of questions, voting, tolerance and respect. Here is a picture of us ‘voting’ for our favourite things.

RE in Year 3

Yesterday in RE, Year 3 were thinking about the question ‘What is morality?’.

They discussed moral dilemmas, where it difficult to decide what is the right or wrong choice, and wrote down the possible solutions to the scenarios.

British Values Curriculum Day

Today we looked at what are British values and how our values shape us as people and as a society. We introduced the topic of democracy and the role of the UK parliament. We set up our own parliament in class and debated the introduction of a new bill. The children quickly understood that passing a new bill was not quite as a easy as first thought and that in order for anything to progress compromises were needed.

In the afternoon we got to buddy up with our Y2 class where we discussed the importance of tolerance and respect. The children in pairs made their own ‘Respect Super Hero’ and explained what their hero’s superpower was.

Switches in Year 4

This week in Year 4, we have been learning how to include a switch in an electrical circuit. We used our circuits, with bulbs as eyes, to create Iron Men.

Thank you to all the parents that came to Les Lapin’s Show and Share assembly today.

Year 3 Outdoor Learning

Year 3 have been enjoying their outdoor learning sessions linked with their current geography topic ‘rivers’.

The children worked in pairs to make a model of a river. They used key vocabulary from their class learning, talking about the source, meander, gravity and river mouth.  They also talked about some of the plants and animals that live on river banks and about the problem of erosion.
