Coding Club Spheros

This week in Year 5/6 Coding Club, pupils explored a range of coding controls, including joystick, tilt and slingshot functions, to manoeuvre their Sphero BOLTs around a challenging obstacle course. Some pupils organised races and designed their own courses, while others created a golf-style challenge using the Spheros.

In addition, several groups practised using the Sphero as a controller, competing to achieve the highest scores in a variety of games. The session was filled with creativity, problem-solving and teamwork, as pupils enjoyed applying their STEM skills in a fun and engaging way.

Year 4 Emotions Workshop

Thank you to the NHS team who came in to teach the year 4 children about big emotions and how to manage them this week. There were also some excellent relaxation techniques shared and the pupils were all given a helpful booklet to take home.

Year 4 – Electricity

Last week year 4 began to explore electricity in their science lessons using the schools’ electricity kits. They learnt how to create a complete circuit and how changing the number of battery cells and bulbs affected their brightness. We look forward to using other components in the future.

Year 4 watercolour art

This week, year four have been learning new watercolour techniques which they will use when creating pieces related to the Iron Man. They worked on their brush control and saw the effects that salt and clingfilm could have on their paint.

Year 4 – Science – Digestive System

Last week, Year 4 pupils took part in an engaging science lesson that brought the digestive system to life. Through a hands-on, guided activity using everyday materials, the children explored the journey of food through the human body, from mouth to bowel. This interactive experience deepened their understanding of digestion and proved to be a highly memorable and enjoyable lesson for all involved.

Y4 Boom Whacker Fun

This week, Year 4 practised playing along to a hoedown piece using boomwhackers. They worked hard on keeping in time as a group and reading the musical notation. Next week, the class is looking forward to starting a some Christmas carols.

Year 4 Catapults

In year four this week we have enjoyed making working Roman catapult models. The pupils had to measure, saw and glue the parts together. We used elastic bands for the mechanism and then tested them outside with erasers and plastic soldiers.

Year 4 Friendship Workshop

Year 4 were fortunate to take part in a friendship workshop today presented by staff from the NHS. We learned how to resolve conflicts, how to recognise the positive qualities in ourselves and finally some relaxation and breathing techniques.

Year 4 teeth experiment

Year 4 pupils explored how everyday drinks can affect our teeth by using eggshells as a model for tooth enamel. They placed eggs in water, orange juice, blackcurrant and Coca-Cola, then observed how each drink stained or damaged the shells. The activity helped them understand how sugary and acidic drinks can impact dental health.

Year 4 Roman Town Design

This week in history, our year 4s learnt about how the Romans designed their towns and cities. With a forum at the centre, city walls with gate houses, amphitheatres, bath houses, a basilica and temples, we were amazed at how many different buildings featured. After finding out how we know so much about these towns today, we spent the afternoon designing our own as you can see below.
