Year 2 – Visiting the Outdoor Classroom

Last week Year 2 enjoyed visiting the outdoor classroom, where we listened to birdsong before making our own bird feeders. We hope these will help the birds to find food during the winter. We are looking forward to going back to the outdoor classroom soon!

Camouflage Art

In Year 1 we have been learning about Kalahari Desert and the animals which live there. We know it is hard for animals to survive here and we learnt that some animals have camouflaged fur/skin to keep them safe from predators. We created our own pieces of animal camouflage art using oil pastels.

Year 1 Maths

This half-term children are exploring numbers using a range of resources. Year 1 are having great fun using the new ‘Rekenreks’!

Electricity in Year 4

This week in Year 4, we have been learning about Electricity in Science. Today, we tested objects in the classroom to discover whether they were conductors or insulators.

Y5 met Axel Scheffler

Y5 were extremely lucky to take part in a very special school event with author and illustrator Axel Scheffler hosted in partnership with the British Library. We took part in a live virtual broadcast where Axel showcased his beloved collection of miniature books, including a tiny handmade version of The Snail and the Whale and a book he made for his daughter’s dolls’ house. He also revealed some wonderful miniature treasures from the British Library, which are currently on display in Newcastle City Library.

Children then followed his step-by-step guide to making a miniature book. All children have made their very own book, each with a story and individual illustrations. These will be displayed in our school library.

RE Visit

On Monday afternoon, Year 4 had a visit from Rev. Laura Montgomery. They learnt all about what charity means to Christians and some of the ways that the people in her churches are charitable. She then set the children a task to research one of 4 charities: Christian Aid, The Children’s Society, Tearfund and Compassion. In pairs, the children created their own informative posters based on the charity of their choice. What a great afternoon!’

Y5 Green Fingers

Year 5 planted blackberry bushes, raspberry canes, redcurrants, blackcurrants and rhubarb in the new countryside area at school.

Everyone’s looking forward to feasting on them in the summer!
