After reading the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’, we tasted fruit from Kenyan and described using adjectives. We used four of our senses to help us describe. We tried banana, mango, passion fruit, oranges and kiwi!
A busy week back in Reception
This week we have enjoyed finding out about the children’s Christmas holidays. Les Papillons Verts were intrigued by this tarantula cast brought in by one of the children. They practised their art skills by looking closely and drawing what they could see. They enjoyed singing incy wincy spider and made spiders and water spouts in their busy time.
Busy First Week in Year 5
Year 5 have hit the ground running this week, throwing themselves into their new learning with fractions, decimals and percentages (in maths) and the Romans in Britain (in English). Swimming lessons have begun too, with nearly 40 of us taking the plunge today – and more lined up as soon as spaces become available. We are looking forward to our trip to Colchester Castle next week too- be sure to ask as about what we learn there!

Being a Good Friend
Year 2 looked at what being a good friend was today. We discussed and acted out different scenarios and thought about whether they were friendly or unfriendly.
Year 4 Christingles
Year 4 discussed different Christian Christmas symbols and their meanings to Christians. The children then made their own Christingles.
Year 3 at the Panto
Year 3 enjoyed their theatre experience today. They laughed, cheered and booed throughout the Cinderella pantomime. We will compare the story of Cinderella with another narrative in the new year.
Christmas Cards

Year 5 Number Snakes
Year 5 have been testing in the last few weeks, but this hasn’t stopped us from being creative! We have been working with the text ‘The Storm Unicorn’ and have represented our own unicorns for non-chronological reports using water colours. In maths lessons, some of us have created number snakes – like those in the images – to represent adjacent numbers producing square numbers.
Mysterious Footprints in Reception
This morning the Reception classrooms had some mysterious footprints. They led to a letter from Santa asking the children to send him their Christmas lists. This week the children are applying their phonics knowledge to write these letters. They have been working on folding the paper into the envelope and used scissor skills to cut out and stick on a stamp. Hopefully they will get to the North Pole in time!
