‘Belly Buddies’ mindfulness breathing exercise

During busy times, it is important to take a moment to be calm. Here is a simple breathing activity for children and parents to do at home. All you need is your favourite soft toy!

Belly Buddies

Find a space with limited noise or distractions, such as your child’s bedroom. Lie down on a soft surface with your legs and arms spread wide and your palms facing down. Take your favourite soft toy and place it on top of your belly button. As you take a deep breath in, count “1, 2, 3” and watch as your toy rises up with your belly. Repeat as you breathe out, counting “1, 2, 3” and watch as your toy sinks down. Repeat 5 times or more. You may wish to add relaxing music. Topic for the week- How sustainable is your home?

Have a look at the PDF about sustainability and deforestation. Then, carry out a sustainability survey about your home. You could consider the following things: travel, energy/water consumption, food and drink, outside space and waste. Use the prompt sheet to help you.
