Parent Support Adviser

My name is Barbara Peek and I have been working as a Parent Support Adviser with The Benjamin Foundation since October 2015. Historically I have worked in education for over 14 years.  I have worked in a Junior School as a teaching assistant and have at times covered classes during teachers’ planning and preparation time. I have provided support for the SENCo and the main school office. My work has involved leading small groups of children for interventions especially around Speech and Language support and for those with English as an additional language. I have been responsible for running nurture groups, and leading breakfast and lunchtime clubs. I have also been actively involved with liaising with parents and other professionals.

After graduating last year, I worked at the children’s bereavement charity Nelson’s Journey for a fixed term contract. In this role I was on the front line of receiving referrals. I completed my volunteer training and have supported at youth clubs since November 2014.

In my personal life I am married with two grown up children. When I have spare time I enjoy running, holidays, eating out and spending time with my family.

My experience of parenthood thus far, combined with the knowledge I have gained in my professional career, gives me the confidence to understand the difficulties and stages our children go through and the issues each one can present. It isn’t easy being a parent and at times things can get tough. Parent Support Advisers are here to help families deal with issues, worries and concerns. We may not have all the answers but together we can explore ways forward.

Please feel free to contact me on 07825 130002 or email me at barbara.peek@benjaminfoundation.co.uk.  I work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I am happy to meet with parents either in school or at home.
